On the Flyers, Eagles and a Forum Battle.

Philly SportsCast #67 - November 28, 2006.
While it’s the heart of the football season, this time we don’t start with the football season as the Birds just don’t deserve to be in front of anything. It is a bad scene and, with the Carolina Panthers coming into town for some Monday Night Football, it looks like it will be getting worse.
We also bring to the table a nice discussion that is going on in the Philly Forum. See the link below.

The Birds are Barely Breathing, the Poor Fans and the Holidays.

Can it be over before it’s over? Hell yes it can be. The Eagles give us no reason to believe they can take care of their own business let alone having Jeff Garcia take care of it for them. The party is over even before the holidays have begun.
We also discuss the Flyers woes, way too much 76ers and Emoney decides who is going to make some money for us this Thanksgiving.

Addendum:
Well I went 3-3 in my picks during the Thanksgiving Day Extravaganza. Let’s see if I can go 5-5.
Here are my weekend picks.
Giants -3 TENNESSEE
The Titans are coming off an emotional win against the Eagles, while the Giants have to get back on the winning track to keep pace with the unstoppable Cowboys. The Giants are in a must win situation and that is why I like them this week.
Tom Coughlin will focus on the run offense this week by using Tiki Barber’s explosive play. Barber has rushed for 998 yds this year while averaging 5.0 yds per carry. Meanwhile, the Titans are ranked 30th in run defense. Look for Tiki to take advantage of the poor front seven and have a big day. This will help Eli relax in the pocket to get the ball to his playmakers, Plaxico Burress and Jeremy Shockey. Eli will have time to locate his routes because the Titans have a horrible pass defense that is ranked 27th in the league. Even though Vince Young had a good game against the pitiful Eagles, he is going through the NFL quarterback rookie phase. Without a strong quarterback at the helm the Titans will get crushed this week.
Cincinnati -3 CLEVELAND
Cincinnati is in a must win situation to keep Wild Card hopes alive. Playing the Browns (who is out of playoff contention) will get them one step closer.
The Bengals must get Rudi Johnson the ball this week, the team is 15-0 when he gets 25 or more carries in a game. This will be the key for the Bengals because Cleveland has really struggled against the run this year. Last week against New Orleans Carson Palmer and Co. finally looked like the threat that receiving corp. can be. Cincinnati is going to score at will and Charlie Frye will not be able to keep up.

On the Eagles Next Must Win, Wes Helms and the Flyers Showing Some Life.

Philly SportsCast #65 - November 16, 2006.
We look at the Eagles’ win over a terrible Washington Redskins team as well as toward the Titans and really how this is the must-win game of the year - there are no more ‘gimmies’ after this one.
We also discuss the Phillies addition of Wes Helms and whether or not a big bat is coming to this team to protect Ryan Howard in the lineup. Dave still insists on talking about the Fly-boys and what this team is doing to improve. Emoney and I don’t see it but Dave, ever the optimist. Knows that the grass is greener.
Michigan vs. Ohio State tomorrow - Go Blue!

The Emoneyline for week 11 in the NFL.
Atlanta +4.5 over BALTIMORE
The Ravens are having an amazing year with McNair at the helm and leading in the AFC North. Atlanta on the other hand has struggled in the past couple weeks by losing to two horrible teams, one on their home turf. However, Baltimore’s iron defense is missing two key players this week with Ray Lewis and Mike Smith injured. Expect Atlanta to get back on track this week.
The Falcon’s have the number 1 rushing attack in the NFL and running is what they are going to do this week to keep the pressure off of Vick. Look for Warrick Dunn to have and impressive game with two key linebackers watching on the sidelines. The Falcons may not win the ballgame but they will cover.
KANSAS CITY -10 over Oakland
Oakland looked good against Denver last week but do not expect lighting to strike twice. The Chiefs are 3-1 at home while Oakland is horrible on the road this year with a record of 0-4. KC will try to keep pace Denver and San Diego by showing some muscle with another AFC West opponent.
Oakland is plain awful, their running game is all banged up with Lamont Jordon having back problems and his replacement have in shoulder issues. This will hurt Oakland offensively because of their passing problems. Shell might replace Andrew Walter with Aaron Brooks this week, this will only add to the mass confusion and frustration of the receiving core.
KC’s run game has been consistent with Larry Johnson having 891 already averaging 4.1 yards a carry. Also, Damon Huard is having an amazing year backing up Trent Green this year. Look for the Chiefs to throw in some trick plays to keep the Oakland’s defense confused.
Dave and Derek contribute to this week’s “Reach Around” listen for it on this week’s SportsCast.

On the First Half of the Eagles Season, The Flyers are Miserable and Emoney.

Philly SportsCast #64 - November 9, 2006.
We grade the Eagles’ first half of the season and it ain’t pretty. Also, we’re getting ready for the second half of the Eagles season and are looking forward to again watching meaningful football in this town. Yes the Flyers stink – can this team rebound?

Emoneyline for week ten in the NFL…
PATRIOTS -10.5 over the Jets
The Jets are coming off their bye week rested and looking for a win. Meanwhile, the Pats are coming off a disappointing loss to the Colts. New England is in desperate need to win this game to keep pace for home field advantage during the playoffs.
New England’s running game is amazing with Cory Dillon and
Laurence Maroney. They pound the ball right up the gut averaging 128yds per game, while the Jets’ rushing defense allows an average of 143yds per game. Expect the Pats to run all day long to gain control of the clock and to keep Pennington and Co. off the field.
This will set up Brady to redeem himself after that horrible (201 yards and 4int’s) display against the Colts last week. Play action will be a factor for Brady who will be able to get the ball to TE Ben Watson who averages 13.1 yds a catch. Brady will pick apart the Jets secondary. DO NOT BE AFRAID OF THE POINTS!
BEARS +1 over the Giants
INJURIES, INJURIES, INJURIES. The Giants have some key starters out this week. Amani Toomer out for season ACL tear: Plaxico Burress questionable with back spasms: Osi Umenyiora doubtful with his hip: Michael Strayhan out with sprained foot.
Look for Chicago to run the ball against a banged up defensive front of the Giants. Thomas Jones and Cedric Benson will have a big day which will give Grossman time to relax in the pocket. Hopefully, Grossman can come off that terrible display against the Dolphins last Sunday and get the ball to his playmakers, Muhsin Muhammad and Desmon Clark.
On the other side of the ball, the Bears defense that is 7th in rushing defense giving up only one rushing TD all year. Bears also have the number 1 pass defense in the league, which allow 168 yards per game and have 11 INT’s. With the possibility of 2 receivers out, Eli could have a long night.
COLTS -12 (45) over the Bills
I like the under. Buffalo will have a lot of trouble scoring with Willis McGahee injured. The ground attack when he is on the field is only averaging 100 yds a game. The Colts Defense will try to make J.P. Losman pass all day this will be big problems for the Bills if Losman performs as poorly as he did last week, completing only eight passes for 102 yards.
Playing in that dome will hurt any QB but even more so this week because the fans are going to be wild, smell 16-0 anyone. The Colts will score points but players will be pulled if it is a beating.

We hit the issues and then we hit the bar. Enjoy.
An extended Emoneyline for week #9 in the NFL:
Atlanta -5.5 over DETROIT
Forget that Michael Vick is the NFC offensive player of the week. Forget that the Falcons are in a position to win their division. There is only one thing to remember, Detroit SUCKS!
Detroit has to stop not only Michael Vick but also Warrick Dunn is playing very well this year. Combined the two are averaging 210 yards on the ground/ 5.7 yards a carry. Detroit just cannot keep up with those numbers with their rookie defense.
Vick and Co are also doing extremely well in the air with seven TD’s in the last two games. Meanwhile, ;the Detroit secondary is horrendous. Detroit secondary is ranked 29th in the NFL. Look for Atlanta receivers, Michael Jenkins, Ashley Lelie, and AJ Crumpler to exploit Detroit.
Atlanta must win to keep pace with the surprising New Orleans Saints. Expect Vick to come out and dominate.
Denver (UNDER) PITTSBURGH
This could have been a nice rematch of the AFC Championship series but instead it is a wash out. Denver came off a heartbreaking loss t o Indy and Pittsburgh looked horrible against one of the worst teams in the NFL.
Expect both teams to regroup and take this win. Both quarterbacks have not put up good numbers this year so look for it to be a defensive game, which both teams have. This game will be low scoring so take the UNDER because Denver and Pittsburgh’s defense live by the motto “Offense scores points, Defense wins games.”
BUFFALO -3 over Green Bay
Green Bay has been squeaking by these last couple of weeks and Buffalo stalled but look for them to use home field advantage and Willis McGahee to run all over Green Bay.
McGahee has been inconsistent this year but look for him to have a big game against a team that is coming off some emotional wins.
More importantly, you should be looking at Buffalo’s passing game. J.P Losman will be looking for Roscoe Parrish to have a big game because Green Bay’s pass defense is last in the NFL in passing at 270 yds per game.
Look for play action to set up with McGahee and passing to happen and more importantly, the power of the emotion of the home field.
