Hey Guys,
Great podcast as usual. Just a quick comment on the advertising thing you were talking about. In soccer, their jerseys are used for advertising, and AIG paid Manchester United something like 50 million to put their logo on the jersey. Look for it within 5 years to hit the NFL because that’s some money you can’t turn down. Plus, I think the nfl is really looking towards world soccer for ways to make more money, ie pay per view games, goal post ads, etc. If it makes more cash, the nfl will be all over it. Football goes ppv, I’m out.
Anyway, great show. You guys rock. If I was closer I’d come to a meet and greet. I’m not weird like your other listeners…ha!
You gonna cover the Philly Union when they start? They’ll be better than the 76ers.
Late.

The “weird guy on the bicycle” is yet another example of the comedy that is just not available on other sports podcasts!

I would also attend a meet and greet, but given that i’m not in the states it would be a big trip, and certainly not one that can be made on a bike.

Please, please, PLEASE get Lidge out of there. I cannot watch this guy anymore. Thanks for the perfect season last year, but Lidge simply cannot be this team’s closer going into the post-season. Give Myers as much work as possible, and roll the dice with him in October. He cannot possibly do any worse.

It’s not like he’s getting beat by Pujols. He was owned by Chris Coste and Kaz Matsui tonight. It’s OVER.

Surely thats the end of Lidge. The guy is completely mentally shot and isn’t in control out there. If Manuel leaves him as the closer its cruel on him and cruel on the fans. Enough is enough.

yeah – this is the end of the line – at least for this season. However, what do you do with him? Where does he come in?

You “Eaton” him.

2 years ago, if you knew that Lidge would have a perfect season (and hence, play one of the biggest parts of the championship run) followed by one of the worst seasons a closer ever had, would you make the deal??? Of course, everyone would, because we were starving for a championship. So he will forever be a legend for that performance.

But the window for this team is finite, and they can’t afford to piss a post-season away hoping Lidge will come around. Charlie says he’s going to throw him back out there. But the team needs to know who the closer is – and I think it’s going to be Brett Myers. I don’t think Madson is comfortable being anything but an 8th inning guy, and I don’t trust Park. Myers needs a little fine-tuning. But once he’s there, they need to install him as the closer going into the playoffs.

With that being said, I don’t think Lidge can serve in any other role in the bullpen. I think he is mentally shot, and is in need of some time to regroup. Problem is, it’s September, not June. I think if Myers wants the ball, then Lidge should be shut down for the rest of the year, and left off the post-season roster. As cold as that sounds, that’s how it has to be.

7. Lets Go Mets

I like your thinking PF. Fuck a bunch of loyalty! Win Now!

So, are you Phillies fans rooting for the Mets against the Marlins this week?

Cold? Who gives a shit about cold? Changes certainly need to be made, but Lidge is surely going to be on this roster for the postseason.

So what’s the dude’s role?

Outside of closer, Lidge doesn’t have a role in the BP. He’s a 1-inning pitcher. And he is RH. The only other role he could play is 8th inning setup. They already have a RH setup in Madson.

If Lidge loses the closer spot, which I think he has already done, there is no spot for him in the BP. Shut him down and see him in Clearwater in February.

Root for the Mets??? Meh, I guess. I’m more interested in rooting for the Phils offense to wake up, and seeing Cliff Lee get back on track. I’m pretty happy with Pedro so far, and I can see him move to the pen and throw middle relief in the playoffs.
