The Phillies optioned right-hander Brett Myers to Triple-A Lehigh Valley before tonight’s game against the Atlanta. General manager Pat Gillick announced the move in a statement.

“I can’t say enough about Brett’s willingness to accept this assignment,” Gillick said. “He understood and is eager to get back on track again. He’s struggling right now, but he is a quality Major League pitcher who we are going to need in the second half of the season.”

While this is something that was totally necessary here - this is not going to score this team any well-needed runs. Who else needs to be sent down?

JA Happ is my guess to take over, can’t be much worse and wouldn’t be surprised if he did well, he should be bumped up anyway, i applaud the management for havin enough ballz to do this and also to myers for acceptin it, he’s definitely a team player, and it’s pretty convenient that all the other NL East teams have been equally suckin at the same time that the phils have been suckin, it’s very polite of them

Polite is not the word I would use - suckin’ is a good one, however. Happ may be a world-beater, but there has to be a place for Myers, the Phillies opening day starter.

I’ve been a big Myers basher on this board, but I have to give him some props this time. He could have been a complete dick, and demanded a trade. But instead, he’s doing what’s best for the team.

Agreed. I really do think some time away from the club will get this dude’s head on straight - no pressure just focusing on pitching.
