Brian Westbrook will have surgery on his right ankle tomorrow.
Westbrook missed one game last season with a high ankle sprain. He had minor knee surgery after the Eagles lost to Arizona in the NFC championship game. Westbrook had 936 yards rushing last season, caught 54 passes for 402 yards and had a career-best 14 touchdowns.
While Eagles drafted running back LeSean McCoy in the second round to provide insurance for the oft-ingured Westbrook, there really is no expectation that the rookie can come in here and fill in for the All Pro.
Dr. Mark Meyerson, with whom Westbrook had an evaluation yesterday, will perform the operation in Baltimore.
There is definitive no word on when Westbrook will be able to resume practice – or if he’ll be ready for the start of the regular season which is September 13th at Carolina.
