Just how close were the Phillies to landing Manny Ramirez? Si.com’s Jon Heyman has written an excellent peice on just how the whole deal went down…

The Phillies were a team said to excite Ramirez. They have a great lineup and an even better ballpark for him to put up big second-half numbers and enhance his free-agent value. The Phillies had interest but were apparently offering even less than L.A. They may have had concerns about how Ramirez would fit into the same outfield with Pat Burrell.

Former Eagle and current drunk driver/Tennessee Titan Jevon Kearse, who was released by the Eagles in February, said his former team will be sorry it didn’t re-sign him.

Kearse, who was arrested and charged with DUI near Vanderbilt University on June 22, told ESPN’S Paul Kuharsky that the Eagles and their fans will be surprised at how well he plays this season.

“They’ll say, ‘Why the hell did we let that dude go?’ ” Kearse said. ” ‘What were they thinking?’ But everything happens for a reason. Maybe it was a good reason: So I can get pissed off and get more motivated.”

Get more motivated? You have got to be kidding me. I, for some crazy reason, though pride and millions of dollars got players like this lunk-headed clown motivated.

How great is this…

(AP) Seven-time Pro Bowl defensive end Michael Strahan is retiring after a 15-year career, capped by a Super Bowl title with the New York Giants in February.

The 36-year-old Strahan, the NFL’s active leader in sacks, informed the Giants on Monday.

Now the Birds only have to worry about that other end who kicked the crap out of them last season.

Update - Had to dump this idea as I am having trouble mixing the feeds. If you are interested in a twitter feed for Philly SportsCast, here it is.

I’ve combined our Philly SportsCast twitter account RSS feed with our “All Posts” feed in order to keep everyone interested in Philly SportsCast totally updated with how we feel about the goings on in Philly Sports.

Our twitter account is “PhillySports” - Dave and I (along with a few guests) will updating it often. Subscribe to the feed today.

There will be no podcast this week as Derek , Dave and emoney are celebrating the addition of the newest Philadelphia sports fan – Owen Patrick – emoney’s newest boy.

We do want to take the time to say thank you to everyone supporting Philly SportsCast. While it is true that we would record this thing even if no one was interested in hearing or voices, we continue to be overwhelmed with the amount of people listening to the show.

Thank you all.

Finally I want to display my anger not with the way the Eagles are finishing the season but the way the owner is dressing for away games. Look at this picture…

What possible reason could this guy have for wearing a blue tie in Texas Stadium? Granted some say it is a silver tie – but what’s the difference? Doesn’t the owner of a $1 billion NFL franchise have any green ties?

Mr. Lurie, Not BLUE and not SILVER when playing the Cowboys – how long have you owned this team?

We are disgusted by this.
