Donovan McNabb Gets A Raise

Donovan McNabb got what he wanted.

The Eagles have restructured the final two years of McNabb’s contract – a deal reportedly worth $24.5 million over the next two seasons.

The five-time Pro Bowl quarterback was due to make $19.2 million over the next two seasons.

“The Philadelphia Eagles organization and the entire city of Philadelphia are fortunate to have a quarterback the caliber of Donovan McNabb,” Reid said in a statement. “He has proven himself to be a talented player on the field, a caring member of the Philadelphia community, and a winner.”

A “significant” portion of McNabb’s base salary for 2010 also is guaranteed according to the Associated Press.

The team announced the restructured deal last night – there is still no word on whether or not this new deal will bring a Super Bowl Championship to this city.

“Donovan has played a large part of this team’s success over the last 10 years,” Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie said. “He has been a professional in every sense of the word.”

Define “success” Jeff.

A classy move by the eagles. Also well deserved by donovan.

Does this mean the kolb era is now over? Draft bust???

How long did Aaron Rodgers wait for Favre to leave GB??? 4 years???

Whether Kolb pans out or not, his era lasted longer than Drew Henson’s did. BTW, what state’s corrections facility is housing Quincy Carter these days???

Wow, where should I start? How about the timestamp discussion from two weeks ago. I posted the first response to Donovan’s raise and only discuss the Eagles (June 12, 2009 06:25pm). You posted on June 12, 2009 11:40 pm as the second person (No letgomets in between our posts and actually, no one is between us). You bring up the Dallas Cowboys into the discussion. Not me or letgomets or anyone else but you, Pairface. I try to discuss the topic on hand – THE EAGLES and you bring up the BOYS. Seems like a habit for you. Maybe you really are a Cowboys fans under all that anger.

I have to agree with SSBlitz on the Rodgers and Kolb comparison. It is laughable. Have you looked up the stats on Quincy Carter? How many games started, QB rating, W vs. L.? The comparison of Carter to Kolb is also laughable. Now you are a little closer with the Henson comparison, but that does not bode well for Kolb. Henson did start a game unlike Kolb. Also, Kolb was the 36th pick vs. 73rd pick. If Henson is a bust (and I agree he was a 3rd round bust – if there is anything as a 3rd round bust), then what is Kolb?

It’s amusing that you come here to make a point about Kolb being a bust. Then when someone makes the same point about your team, you cry about somebody bringing up the Cowboys. Cry me a river.

Contrary to both yours and strongside’s reading comprehension ability. (BTW, in case you missed it, strongside also thinks Eli is the 3rd-best QB in the NFL) I didn’t compare Kolb to Rodgers as players. I simply noted that Rodgers waited 4 seasons before replacing Favre as starter of the Packers. I’m sure there have been others that have waited several years before they became starters (Hostetler & Gannon come to mind), so Kolb’s situation is not unprecedented.

And to be honest with you – I do not really care if Kolb ever starts for the Eagles. If he does get a chance, and does well, then great. But if he doesn’t, and the Eagles can trade him to improve their roster, then so be it. Besides, trading him most likely means that McNabb is doing well as the starter.

As for your points about Henson and Carter – Henson was drafted where he was because he was committed to baseball at the time. The Cowboys brought him in with the intention of installing him as their long-term starter. Turns out he was a bust in 2 sports. The difference between Henson and Kolb is that Kolb is still on an NFL roster.

Carter had a fair amount of talent. He just pissed it all away because he has a 10 cent head. Again, I wasn’t comparing them as players. I was just pointing out that since you seem to be hellbent on labeling Kolb a bust, even though he has not even played to a large enough sample to be judged fairly, your team has cranked out it’s share of duds, too.

OK. Do not get your patties in a wad. Please answer one easy question for us.

What would you expect in return for a backup QB who never started a game, who had a horrible game against Baltimore after the starter was pulled, and who is trained in the WCO?

If the Eagles decide to trade Kolb (a big if), then it would be foolish to trade him without giving him some PT. The Baltimore game was not exactly a fair chance for Kolb. If they decide to move him, then they would have to showcase him with some PT in games where the Eagles are winning or losing by a wide margin.

If they were to trade him now, then obviously, they are not going to get a 2nd for him, and maybe not even a 3rd. But if at the end of the year, they plan on extending McNabb, then they need to have him get some snaps, and hope they can get a mid-to-late 2nd rounder. This time last year, nobody even heard of Matt Cassell (again, I’m not comparing players, just situations – since I always have to spell it out for you), and New England converted him into the 34th pick in the draft.

But then again, Kolb is under contract for 2 more years, and they really don’t have to do anything with him until they make their decision on McNabb. He’s under contract for reasonable money, and he could easily be extended if they decide to let McNabb walk.

Trade him for what, a bucket to catch McNabb’s lunch?

Did you come up with that all by yourself, M-to-M??? Amazing.
