Eagles Defeat The Vikings – Bring On The Giants

[philadelphiaeagles.com]
Due to a positively suckish performance by Minnesota quarterback Tarvaris Jackson (15/35 for 164 yards and one very critical interception) combined with a steady gameplan by head coach Andy Reid, the Eagles beat the Vikings 26-14 today and will travel to dreaded and smelly Giants Stadium next week to play those bastard G-Men in the Divisional round of the 2008 NFL playoffs.
While we were treated to a solid game from Donovan McNabb, 23/34 for 300 yards, the win came on the backs of the Eagles defense as the legs of Brian Westbrook – who’s 71 yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter really sealed the deal.
That catch and run killed the Vikings and totally silenced the crowd of 61,746 at the Metrodome.
Asante Samuel returned an interception 44 yards for a touchdown – the cornerback’s NFL-record fourth return for a score in the postseason. The All-Pro cornerback jumped an out rout by Vikings receiver Sidney Rice and got a nice block from defensive end Chris Clemons on Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson at the goal line to get into the end zone.
The interception was Samuel’s sixth of his postseason career, moving him into a tie with Ty Law for second all-time behind safety Rodney Harrison’s seven.
Next up: the Super Bowl champions.
Fcuk the Super Bowl champions.
“It’s gonna be a tough game up there in the Meadowlands,” Brian Westbrook said just after beating the Vikings. “You know those guys are rested. They’re a very good football team and we have to go out there and try to execute our gameplan and play our game.”
From the Giants’ Justin Tuck:
“I think the Eagles are the hottest team in the NFL right now. They may be the sixth seed, but they sure aren’t playing like it. We know them well, which is a good thing, but they know us well, too. I’m glad this game is going to be at home because I know our fans will be into it. It’s going to be the tough NFC East battle you’d expect, and we are really looking forward to it.”

Great win against the Vikings today. The defense played a solid game and the offense did enough to get the job done. I”d like to see some of those FGs be TDs but if the D keeps scoring then FGs work. But those FGs aren’t gonna be so easy to kick in that wind tunnel in NY. I’m also SHOCKED that Andy Reid stuck with the run even though it wasn’t producing that much yardage. As far as next week goes I’m looking forward to another great game. GO BIRDS!!!!!!
