Eagles Lose To Cowboys At Home

It was there for the taking last night. The arch-rival Cowboys – at home on national television. However, the Eagles continue to play games with their fans and they lost to the ‘Boys 20-16 last night.

Question: Is this Eagles team any good? Is it NFL parity or are the Eagles simply a mediocre team in a drab-as-hell division?

Terrible game by McNabb and Reid. The refs jobbed the Eagles on both challenged spots (especially the 2nd one…not even close to where they spotted it), but McNabb was awful. He’s at the end, and is only a mediocre pocket passer with no legs at this point.

The next generation WRs, RB, TE & LT are already on the field for the Eagles. I know it won’t happen, but it’s time to move to the next generation at QB, for better or for worse.

Pairface – no credit to the Cowboys? Always the refs. This game with the two challenges. Last year with the No Pass Interference call in the NFC conference game on the 4th down.

Reid has no idea on how to handle challenges. Challenging spots late in football games and risking your last timeout is insane – there is no way that sufficient evidence can be presented via replay to improve a spot as close as the one late in last night’s game.

Does his Motorola headset not work?

6sbrs, if you read the entire post, I noted that McNabb’s play was bad, and the game wasn’t determined by the refs. But as usual, you are reading selectively on Monday morning.

DC – I don’t blame Reid for using his final challenge on that 4th down play. It was a 13-13 game, and the ball was near mid-field. Even Michaels and Collinsworth in the booth agreed that the spot was poor and the challenge was justified. Again, it wasn’t why they lost. But it was a brutal call.

Reid’s problem is burning timeouts in the 3rd quarter for no reason. If McNabb isn’t happy with the defense he’s looking at, then audible to another play, or take the 5-yard penalty, and keep the timeout in your pocket. This is not the 1st time Reid was caught at the end of the game without timeouts. And kicking a FG with 4 minutes left, down 7 and no timeouts was a hideous call.

Dallas gets credit for playing well. Their defense played better than I expected. They harrassed McNabb all night. But neither team on the field looked ready to challenge the Saints or Vikings for the NFC.

What a pum fake by homo romo on the miles td pass. Now he is a wr. Wins the big game for us. Who needs TO when you have Austin. He is even a Yankee fan.

Dare I say it, but I actually like Miles Austin. He’s a good story. But Austin’s emergence makes the Roy Williams trade even more questionable. The Cowboys paid a king’s ransom for a guy that has fallen to #2 on the depth chart. Those picks could have used better elsewhere.

And since you brought up the Yankees…are YOU a Yankees fan now??? Have you turned your back on all of your hometown teams???

Think about this…Has the Williams trade created a much better Miles Austin? If that is the case, then the trade is HUGE for the Cowboys.

How has the trade created a much better Miles Austin??? It’s not a case of where Roy Williams is tearing up the NFL right now, and taking defenders away from Austin. I see it more as Dallas didn’t know what they had with Austin. It’s his 4th season. They finally came to the realization that he could play. Crayton had his chance to move up, and didn’t seize the opportunity. Hurd’s a guy that has shown flashes, but is not a reliable starter to this point. They gave Austin a chance, and he has produced. It has nothing to do with Roy Williams.

No I am stil a phillies and flyers fan. Always was and always will. The Yankee reference was to piss you off.

The Williams trade has been a bust so far. But how do you know the boys would have been better or worst with the draft picks? Williams had a few key catches yesterday. The boys could have drafted another Bobby carpenter.

Well then your argument is the known bust (so far) of Williams vs. the potential bust of the draft picks. The factor that is missing is the money. In addition to the draft picks, Williams got a 5-year, $45MM contract ($20MM guaranteed). So even if the draft picks turned into busts, they would have likely cost a lot less than Williams’ contract.

His contract is not over yet. That is why so far. He has not complete a full season with the boys.

I think the the Eagles are a really good team but goes through rough spots often. This game was a very important because it decided who leads the division. I was thinking that this game would give the winning team the competitve age to win the division.
Mcnabb did terrible with his high and low pass. IS it just me or is
Mcnabb always throwing it low or high. I think westbrook was a pretty contribuation to the loss.
Lets try to put this game behind us a win the next 3 division games. I think the lasy game of the season (cowboys again) will decide the division winner because honestly, the giants are playing crappy football right now.

Yeah the Giants are playing bad football and they can’t beat good teams – but the Eagles can’t beat good teams either – not the way they played last night.

I thought McCoy played extremely well and filled in nicely for Westbrook, who is a broken shell of his former self.

I do agree, however, that McNabb was a mess last night – in a game that he could have surely taken home with just slightly better play.

Also, let’s not forget Sheldon Brown getting smoked on that touchdown pass.

That was painful viewing. With the schedule coming up I just can’t see us getting in the playoffs (or doing anything if we do get in them). However, I also tipped the Dodgers to beat us in the NLCS! That Cowboys team is average, but unfortunately we couldn’t beat an average team. I don’t think missing Westbrook is an excuse. McCoy did a good job and we humiliated the Giants without Westy anyway.

On another topic, with it looking more likely by the day that Vick wont be here next season, I would like to request that the next podcast features a short discussion on why we actually signed him.

Did we really go through all that bad publicity to get a guy who gains 1 yard on a bullshit wildcat play every game? We were all guessing what Fat Andy had in mind for him before the season and it turns out what he had in mind was absolutely nothing.

Why on 2nd and short, 3rd and short and 4 & inches are we not using Weaver for these runs. He had a couple of good runs early and they forgot about him. McNabb had a few nice throws but overall did not have a good game

The difference in the game was Wade’s defensive game plan and Romo’s ability to manage the game and not coughing up the ball.

I guess that’s one way of looking at it. Another would be that the Eagles just didn’t execute on offense. McNabb missed some wide open throws (especially to Jackson running free across the middle of the field).

It was a good road win for the Cowboys. But after watching the Steelers throttle the Broncos last night, even if by some miracle the Cowboys (or Eagles) were to make it out of the NFC, do they really stand a chance against a team like that???

No – and I fear that the Eagles brass is satisfied with just getting out of the NFC. Is 10 wins and being in the playoffs year after year good enough?

I don’t think the brass is satisfied with 10 wins. But shit happens. Jim Johnson died. Stewart Bradley went down. Shawn Andrews went off the deep end. The OL has been beat up all year. McNabb has been hurt, and then inconsistent. Westbrook has been out.

That still doesn’t absolve Reid or McNabb for thir shortcomings. Reid still can’t manage the clock, gets way too pass-happy in his play-calling, and can’t seem to make adjustment when his master plan isn’t working. McNabb peaked long ago, and cannot do the one thing that made him a playmaker, which is run.

So it looks like the plan is to ride it out with McNabb this year, and see how far he can take them. The Eagles certainly don’t matchup very well with either the Vikings or Saints, and they would likely have to go on the road and beat BOTH of them in order to make it out of the NFC. That’s not going to happen.

4. Kept both the Thomas and Runyan for another year

Eli played through an injury and looks to be back to full health. Cole Hamels is a QUITTER! Eli has shouldered the blame during this losing streak, and even denied the fact that the injury has hampered his ability.

The NFC East is still WIDE open, and I do bELIeve that Eli will have this team in the playoffs again.

Your response to LetsGoMets is the clearest example of your inability to be objective when it comes to Eli. You are merely cheerleading for him at this point. Now you are blaming injury for Eli’s recent problems??? What about the other dozen times Eli has gone in the crapper over the course of his career??? I could understand if this was his 1st or 2nd time struggling, but it’s not even close.

It DOESN’T MATTER how much blame Eli shoulders. That is an irrelevant point. He wouldn’t have to shoulder so much blame if he PLAYED BETTER. You give Eli all the credit you possibly can when the Giants are winning…but you make STEPFORD EXCUSES for Eli when he struggles.

Your knock on Rivers was that he couldn’t win a game late in a big spot…then he stuck it to your team. It doesn’t matter if Eli had a better rating for 1 game. What are their career numbers???

BTW…McNabb after 5 years > Eli after 5 years. Do you want the numbers???

Yay Eli…yay team.

Sorry, but having FAITH in Eli being an elite QB is NOT the same as Eli actually being elite…big difference.

And you can throw the FAIL word all you like. But as INDIVIDUAL players, McNabb is BETTER than Eli to the same points in their careers. McNabb is the statistically better passer. And his numbers don’t include all of the rushing yards (2,339) and TD’s (17) which would distort the numbers even more in McNabb’s favor. Eli’s got a ring…but that’s a team accomplishment. Eli would have to improve significantly to make it to McNabb’s level.

McNabb > Eli
Rivers > Eli
Roethlisberger > Eli

McNabb’s passing numbers are a joke for being in an offense that passes the ball over 60% of the time. He only has 4 seasons with 20 plus TDs PASSING. Eli is well on his way to his 5th 20plus TD season in 5years.

I think McNabb killed his career by relying on the run too much and never correcting his mechanics. Now that he can’t run anymore he is just an unreliable erratic passer.

“As of today, McNabb will be remembered for choking and Eli will be remembered for one of the greatest 4th quarter performances in NFL History.”

And as of today, that STILL does not make Eli a better QB than McNabb.

I agree with your statement about the current state of McNabb. However, that does NOT take away from his overall career. What is the difference between throwing a TD and running for one??? NOTHING.

1st 5 years of each player’s career:
McNabb – 87 passing TDs, 17 rushing TDs – 104 total
Eli – 98 passing TDs, 3 rushing TDs – 101 total

So in the only stat that favors your boy…it doesn’t favor your boy. What about INTs?

McNabb – 49
Eli – 74

Wow…that’s not even close to comparable. I guess that explains why McNabb has a better passer rating. This does’t even take into account the fact that Eli had Burress, Shockey and Toomer to throw to, while McNabb had Torrance Small, Todd Pinkston and James Thrash as his targets.

The only season McNabb had a premier wideout during his prime was 2004. His numbers that season:

64% completion percentage, 31 TDs, 8 INTs, 104.7 rating.

Eli doesn’t have a season that even sniffs these numbers.

“Love the way you excluded the Super Bowl run AGAIN.”

And I love the way you hang on to the Super Bowl run as if Eli was the sole reason they won it. Eli’s individual career has been nothing more than ordinary. Even in the year the Giants won the SB, many other QBs (24, in fact) were BETTER than Eli was. Even in the magical Super Bowl game itself, the Giants scored a mediocre 17 points. It was enough to win, only because the defense held the Patriots to 14, well below their season average of 30+.

If the Giants get things turned around this year (which I think they will, btw), it will likely be because the defense steps up, not because Eli leads the way. He’s just not a dominant QB, whether you can admit it or not. The 20+ TD stat doesn’t mean a whole lot if he also threw 16+ INTs during that same stretch.
