Jeffrey Lurie Is Very Rich

[Jeffrey Lurie]

The economy may be getting slammed and the Eagles are still without a Superbowl ring, but Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie has plenty of reasons to smile.

According to Forbes Magazine, Lurie is one of 793 billionaires in the world.

Perhaps this is what he meant by referring to the Eagles as the “Gold Standard.”

YES!!! Excellent! At least someone in that goddamn organization is hitting their goals.

I’ve been saying it for 3 years now… this is THE #1 REASON why Andy Reid will never be fired.

Andy hit with McNabb as his first draft and then built a solid team around him. 3 NFC Championship game loses later – he was forced to roll the dice, put it all on the line, sign a deal with the devil if you will – and bring in the gamebreaking WR we needed for years. T.O. gave that team the swagger & attitude it needed to get to the Super Bowl… but not enough to win it.

Like all deals with the devil though, he eventually came to collect. T.O. imploded the team – BUT fresh off a Super Bowl appearance – the city booed him out of town and gave Andy the green light to move ahead.

The value of the team during those 4 years went through the roof. 4 straight NFC Champonship games, 1 Super Bowl appearance & a new stadium and Jeff Lurie was raking in the dough.

This is the heart of the problem.

Andy Reid put it all on the line with T.O. and it blewup the following season. NFL coaches & GMs can make mistakes… but never the same mistake TWICE. That said, Reid will never make a move for Anquan Boldin or any other huge move that would get the fan base thinking “THIS is our year.” To put it all on the line and come up empty AGAIN would mean the end of the Andy Reid era as we know it.

Build the team with your scheme, then put it on the line. You failed? We’ll give you another shot. Build it up a second time, put it on the line and come emprty again? Don’t let the door hit you in the ass.

The fans love this team and will ALWAYS financially support it. Unfortuantely, we’re stuck with a coach who knows the job risk of going all out for another Super Bowl shot. In the meantime… stay competitve, make the playoffs, put together a good run every now and then & people will come. As people keep packing the games, Jeff Lurie will keep climbing up the Forbes 400.

Does Lurie have the balls to fire Reid if the team stays in playoff contention? He’s a billionaire. A good deal of the credit for that goes to Andy Reid. As a businessman, I wouldn’t fire Reid. When it comes to dollars & cents no one in their right mind would. As a fan… we’re fucked.

So did he: http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/americas/03/13/mexico.forbes.list/index.html

Real class act raising ticket prices too.

Building one of the smallest capacity stadiums was a nice smoke and mirrors technique also.

Is Andy Reid taking advice from El Chapo?!?!? Ask either one of them about their business and you’ll get the same responce: “I don’t wanna get into all of that.”

Horseshit.

Strongside…you’re a clueless tool. Giants are holding the line on ticket prices for ONE YEAR as they wait for their new stadium. Giants raised their average ticket price 8.3% in 2008 – and had the 4th-highest ticket prices in the NFL. All while making their fans sit in a shitty stadium built on top of a toxic landfill in one of the most polluted pieces of land in the country.

As for the Eagles satduim being small – do you think they’d have any problems selling another 10K or 20K tickets for their home games??? The capacity at the Linc is perfect for a football stadium, because the sightlines are great everywhere. I take it you’ve never been to FedEx Field in DC…that stadium has a ridiculous, college-like stadium capacity (90,000+) with some seats that seem like they are a mile from the field.

2008, right, after they won the Super Bowl. I prefer GIANTS stadium over the LINC sorry. The Linc smells like urine, even outside and the parking lot is atrocious.

Have another sip of that Eagles Kool-aid … LOL.

Sorry, but the Linc is MILES ahead of Giants Stadium. Giants Stadium is a toilet, that is only slightly better than the old Vet. The Linc is superior to Giants stadium in every facet. YOU’RE the clown drinking the Kool-aid if you think otherwise.

Speaking of parking lots…Isn’t Giants Stadium great???

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBEaxfxuGBU

Is that the “class” you are referring to???

And was 2008 the only year the Giants ever raised their ticket prices??? Another moronic statement (what a shocker). They held the line this year, because of A) the economy, and B) because they are moving into their new stadium next year. Don’t think they did it out of the kindness of their hearts. Wait until the new stadium opens up…then the raping begins.

That was my point , they froze ticket prices because of the economy, but Laurie did not.

There is no doubt that those fans are idiots, but at vandalism is not rape.

Where are they going to spend that $50M you were bragging about sister?

I was at the GIANTS Eagles playoff game at the Meadowlands…were you? The Eagles fans were treated well before and after the game.

The LINC is a toilet already. How many games did you go to last season?

Way to post a link to an article that has no factual merit, whatsoever. It perfectly sums up your entire existence here.

I’ve been to Eagles/Giants games (as well as concerts) at the Linc, Giants Stadium and the Vet. I stand by what I said. Giants Stadium is a shithole that is closer to the Vet in terms of building quality and amenities. The Linc is easily the best of the 3 buildings. The new Giants Stadium will undoubtedly be a better building, as that’s the way it normally goes when it comes to stadiums – the newer, the better.

I’m not talking about the fans that go to the stadiums. I will say there are plenty of assholes that go to both stadiums. You talk as if Giant fans are perfect angels that never do any wrong. That could not be further from the truth. But then again, this isn’t the first time that you’ve talked out of your ass without anything to back it up.

You criticize EVERYTHING the Eagles do..From the front office to the parking lot, and everything inbetween. Now you’re dissing the stadium. Since the Giants do everything right, and apparently, the Eagles do everything wrong – then why are you here, exactly??? Why bother with the inferior Eagles??? You should be on a Giants board, where you can circle jerk with other Giants fans regarding how great your team is.

Isn’t that what this site is for, criticism and opinions related to Philadelphia teams? I just wanted to point out that the Eagles were the only team in the division that built a new stadium with less total capacity then their previous stadium.

Score one more meaningless point for Strongside. Congrats, you lead PSC in useless information by a wide margin.

Perhaps the stadium was built for the quality of the experience, not how many people they can jam in there. The Linc was the most cutting-edge design of it’s time (6 years ago). The Phillies cut their capacity by over 1/3 when they built CBP. The NFL is not college football. There is no need for 100K capacity. And like I said, if the Eagles added another 10K to 15K seats to the Linc, they’d sell them out in about 10 minutes.

As for the criticism and opinions, you’re more than entitled to them. But at least try to show a hint of objectivity once in a while. You criticize ownership, coaching, drafting, free agent evaluation, and now the stadium and parking. Is there any food at the Linc that you like? I can’t recall one thing you’ve ever said positive about the Eagles. Is there one thing the Eagles have ever done right??? Surely, they did something right if they went into Giants Stadium and knocked the mighty Super Bowl champs out of the playoffs.

This is a big part of my problem with you and your point of view. Before the 2007 playoffs, the Giants were shit. Ever since then, according to you, the Giants are the best organization in football, and the Eagles are the worst. Give it a rest, already. I have no problem saying the Giants are a good team, and will definitely be in the mix for the Super Bowl this year, with or without Plax. But like I said before, just because the Giants are good doesn’t make your input on this board any more relevant, especially since you pull half of your facts out of your ass.

Building a stadium with a smaller capacity was very shrewd. The Eagles’ season ticket sales went from upper sidelines readily available to a 45K+ waiting list in a very very short time. You can’t buy that kind of hype, but you can build it. Of course the Eagles’ success on the field played a part in that too. I’m all for the smaller stadiums and better sight lines. The new Taxpayer/Citi field is 10K smaller than Shea, and I can’t wait to go to a game. To compare the toilet bowls of Vet/Ghettolands to the LInc is ridiculous.

Pairface:

What is your take on the Cutler situation? Do you think the Eagles should try to make a deal for him?

If I were the Eagles, and I were presented the opportunity to trade McNabb for Cutler straight up…I would probably make that trade. Cutler has much more of his career in front of him, and has all the tools of a franchise QB.

However, there are a few caveats that would concern me about bringing Cutler in. First is the offense. I think adapting him to Reid’s WCO would definitely come with some growing pains. Cutler has a big arm, and likes to throw the ball downfield. I’m not sure how he would adjust to throwing a lot of short and intermediate-range passes.

My biggest concern would be Cutler’s attitude. Cutler was definitely dissed by the incoming HC in Denver. But at the same time, he is looking rather whiny about his situation. If he whines in Philly the way he is whining in Denver, the fans and the media are going to let him have it. McNabb is sort of whiny, and he has been crucified on more than one occasion. I don’t know if Cutler could handle the heat of the Philadelphia fans/media.

But I’m definitely intrigued. Big arm, smart guy (graduated from Vanderbilt), all the tools of a franchise QB. I’ve definitely defended McNabb the most on this board, and still think he is or can be a top-10 QB. But if the opportunity presents itself to grab a guy like Cutler, I would seize that opportunity.

The Eagles may have to offer more than just McNabb to acquire Cutler. Cutler has upside and McNabb does not have the legs that made him a double threat earlier in his career.

Well, if it’s McNabb and a low-to-mid round pick or 2, I would still do the deal. Cutler (and his gent) have put the Broncos in a tough spot, so they won’t be dealing from a position of strength. Cutler has also started talking about a new contract. The Eagles are among only a handful of teams that can offer the Broncos a starting QB and draft picks, and can offer Cutler a new contract.

That said, I still don’t think the deal gets done.
