Mets Looking To Manny, Bullpen

Officials from both the Mets and the Red Sox have confirmed that the Mets have contacted the Red Sox about Manny Ramirez and are interested in pursuing the future hall-of-famer if he’s made available.

It is suspected that Mets’ GM Omar Minaya wants Ramirez more than Mets ownership does and the team is willing to part with major league prospects that it would not consider giving up earlier in the season.

Bottom Line:

The Mets want Manny and are willing to do what it takes to get him.

Also, it is suspected that the Mets are looking to “overhaul” their bullpen. Aaron Heilman and Scott Schoeneweis are being pushed out the door. This should come as no surprise to anyone who has seen the Mets bullpen in action.

I, for one, would miss Heilman and Schoeneweis - when either come into a game, I know the Phillies have a chance.

I don’t know how I feel about Manny as a Met. 2-3 years ago, it was a no brainer. It really depends on his $20M option for next year. If it’s for the remainder of this year only, I think it works out. I would hate to see them trade Fernando Martienez, Jon Niese, or Eddie Kunz in the deal.

As for Heilman and Shoeneweis, I could really care less. Neither has impressed me. Heilman is pure rubbish in my opinion.

Si has Manny going to the Phillies for Burrell rumors:

Jon Heyman was on SNY around 11pm saying its 50/50.

This deal makes zero sense to me.
