While that headline may be as obvious as the rain, there’s no doubt that Brett Myers has the Phillies fate in his right hand.
Myers, who admittedly has not pitched anywhere near where he is capable of, needs to step it up and kick some ass tonight. If he can do so, the Phillies ride an ultra-high into puss-filled Citi Field to face the Mets for a two-game set.
If he can’t, there will be a ton of questions asked about the Phillies #2 starter – and whether or not he is capable of ending this slump before drastic measures are taken. Myers has allowed at least three runs in each of his five starts this season and is 1-2 with a 4.83 ERA.
We all remember Myers having to be sent down because he pitch way too many poor games last year. We also remember that Myers bounced back after taking his demotion like a man to pitch this team into the World Series He went 4-1 with a 1.65 ERA in August, 2008.
Let’s stop this string of poor starts before it gets worse, Brett. You’re capable of so much more.

No, I don't believe Myers is capable of anymore, and it's only downhill from here. His velocity is down, which means he is only effective when he is locating his curveball, which is not all that often. He is a .500 pitcher at best, and he needs to be somewhere else next year.
With Eaton and Myers' salary coming off the books at the end of the year, the Phils will have some coin ($20MM+) to go get a true #2 starter and a bullpen arm or 2. Their lineup is the best in MLB right now, and adding Marson full-time next year will only make it better.
