There Is No Way Andy Reid Can Hang On

I have been thinking about Andy Reid for a while now. Even before this blown game against the Giants, I’ve been wondering when exactly the ax would fall.

I now declare that Reid is officially done in this town. I cannot predict when this will happen as Reid is a golden son to Birds’ owner Jeff Jurie, but it’s only a matter of time.

Isn’t it a shame that the winningest coach in the history of the Eagles franchise has to go out like this? But how much more can Eagles fans take?

The Inquirer’s Ashley Fox writes:

But everything is A-OK. Just listen to the head coach, who knows more than anyone else in town because, you know, he’s the head coach and he’s been the head coach for the last 10 years. It’s going to be fine because Reid knows what he’s got. It’s no time to panic. There’s plenty of time left.

“I know what I have as far as coaches and players, and I know what we have to do,” Reid said yesterday. “And we’re going to go do it.”

Sure you are. Maybe against the 1-8 Cincinnati Bengals. But what about against the Giants again? Or the Redskins again? Or the Cowboys again?

The Eagles’ five wins this season have been against teams that, as of Monday, were 18-26. Their four losses have been against teams that are 24-12. The meaning in that is simple: The Eagles can beat the less-competitive teams, but they’re toast against the winners.

Bringing The Hate…Giants Thrash The Eagles

After taking that quick lead on a nice touchdown run by DeSean Jackson, the Eagles looked awful during the next quarter or so and allowed 17 unanswered points. The Birds certainly weren’t helped by the referees or even their own coaching, as commenters here were calling for Reid’s job before the game was even over. the700level.com

The Eagles sit at 5-4. Despite occupying the basement of the NFC East, the Eagles find themselves only a game back of the conference’s final playoff spot. Have the Eagles dug themselves a hole with their 0-3 division and 4-4 conference record? No doubt, but it is not an insurmountable deficit. bleedeaglesgreen.com

Last night the Giants went into Philly and dominated the game. Yes, I realize the final score, 36-31, didn’t indicate that thanks in large part to two costly turnovers, but they beat them up. Consider; the Giants rushed the ball 45 times for 229 yards! The Giants held the ball for almost 40 minutes. The Giants held the great running back Brian Westbrook to only 59 total yards! They were by far the better team. myteamrivals.typepad.com

Maybe when the NFL does it’s schedule for next season Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie should tell the league not to schedule for any prime time games. One more thing, constantly losing in “Prime Time” is a sign of a team that is going down hill. davesmallsports.blogspot.com

Bottom line is that the defense got rolled. Could the offense have not had a few key 3 and outs? Absolutely. That didn’t help at all… but the fact is that you can’t blame the poor job against the run tonight on the defense being tired. They got run over early in the game when they were fresh… bleedinggreennation.com

Eagles Lose To The Gaints At Home, 36-31

It was a ghastly site - Brandon Jacobs, Derrick Ward and a little taste of Ahmad Bradshaw late in the game running all over the Eagles. Also, Eli Manning throwing two touchdowns to complete a 36-31 for the Giants at Lincoln Financial Field.

Someone please tell me that when you have arguably the most explosive player in football (Brian Westbrook) how the hell does this Eagles offense become focused on a rookie WR.

I understand that DeSean Jackson is quite explosive and that he scored on a 9-yard run, taking the snap out of a shotgun formation, but there is no way that Donovan McNabb can always look for him alone to make plays - the kid barely has his dick wet in the NFL.

As much as I hate to admit it, there are smart coaches on this team. Why they cannot create a scheme for Westbrook in a game like this, against a team he traditionally murders, is beyond me.

This was a killer loss because the Birds’ offense scored 31 points. Now the Giants (8-1) are two games ahead of the Redskins and three in front of the Eagles (5-4) and Cowboys. The Giants are also 3-0 against its division rivals.

Philly SportsCast #154 - November 6, 2008

What goes up, must come down and in this case we can’t ride the Phillies Championship any longer - it’s time to face reality.

The Giants are coming into town and while one of use (Derek) has the Eagles winning this game - you can argue that the Birds just don’t have the talent to compete with that fuckin’ team from that fuckin’ town.

Enjoy.

Giants Coming To Town

By: Derek
Published: November 5th, 2008

Sunday night that other team from New York - other than the bullshit Mets - comes into town to hand the Birds a loss that could be the first nail in the 2008 season’s coffin.

However, they are beatable and they certainly are beatable on national TV.

This has got potential for a good one.

“We’re going to have to be a lot better,” said quarterback Eli Manning. “We’re playing a good team this week. We can’t afford to have that many turnovers on offense. We were fortunate (against Dallas) because we did some good things and our defense caused four turnovers.”

The Giants’ third-ranked defense has bailed out a slumping Manning and an inconsistent offense far too many times over the last three weeks. The Giants got away with Manning’s two lost fumbles and one interception — which was returned for a touchdown - because the defense forced those turnovers and held the Cowboys without a first down on seven of their 12 drives.

According to the Daily News Ruben Amaro Jr. will be named the new General Manager of the World Champion Philadelphia Phillies.

From what I can gather, club president Dave Montgomery told Mike Arbuckle, the team’s assistant general manager, scouting and player development that Amaro won the job.

The Daily News story also stated that Arbuckle told Montgomery that he quit.

An official announcement expected on Monday.

The Phillies Are World Champions!

By: Derek
Published: October 29th, 2008

We are busting - just busting - Amazing.

This is me yelping like a little girl after the Phillies won - it felt so good…

From Philly.com

The Phillies are the champions.

Pedro Feliz singled in pinch-runner Eric Bruntlett with the tiebreaking run in the seventh inning, and Brad Lidge finished up a perfect year out of the bullpen by closing in the ninth to lift the Phillies to a 4-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays tonight at Citizens Bank Park.

The Phillies won all three games at the Bank to clinch the best-of-seven series, four games to one, and win their first World Series title since 1980. The fourth victory was the most difficult since the game had been suspended Monday night because of a cold, windblown rain after 51/2 innings with the score tied at 2.

J.C. Romero worked 11/3 innings to pick up the win. Lidge gave up a broken-bat single in the ninth to Dioner Navarro but struck out pinch-hitter Eric Hinske on three pitches amid a barrage of camera flashes to pick up the save, his 48th in 48 opportunities this season.

Lidge fell to his knees after the final out, and he was mobbed a split second later by his teammates.

Phillies Win Game 5! - At Least According To Vegas

By: Derek
Published: October 29th, 2008

Leave it up to those wonderful Las Vegas sportsbooks to tell us what we already know.

Despite what appeared to happen Monday night in Philadelphia, the Tampa Bay Rays lost Game 5 of the World Series. At least in the view of Nevada sports books, the Phillies won 2-1.

The game was suspended because of rain in the middle of the sixth inning with the score tied 2-2. The Rays had tied it in the top of the sixth when Carlos Pena’s two-out single scored B.J. Upton.

However, even though the suspended game is scheduled to be completed today, the betting result is final.

According to Nevada gaming rules — often referred to as “house rules” — the final score of an official game is determined by reverting to the last completed inning. The Phillies led 2-1 after the fifth.

Las Vegas sports books are paying off Game 5 side bets on Philadelphia, which was about a minus-170 favorite. Wagers on totals and run-line bets are being refunded because rules stipulate that at least 81/2 innings must be played.

“We’re just following the regular baseball rules. This is a very common rule,” Las Vegas Hilton sports book director Jay Kornegay said. “We can’t make exceptions.
