Raul Ibanez is the man.
Ibanez hit a three-run homer with two outs in the 10th inning and the Phillies beat the Mets 6-3 last night – sticking it to the Mets when this team easily could have folded up and went home.
“There’s always a confidence, and you can always feel it in the dugout,” Ibanez said. “Not an arrogance, a confidence. It’s a tough team. Everybody has good at-bats. It’s as if when anybody goes up there, you feel like they’re going to be the guy. It’s neat to be a part of.”
However, there’s no quit in this Phillies team – they believe they can come back to win any game, in any situation.
This time the Phils rallied to win for the second straight game against the Mets as Chase Utley hit an RBI double in the sixth inning and Chris Coste delivered a one-out double in the seventh, which moved Pedro Feliz to third. Feliz then tied the game at 3-3 on a groundout by Matt Stairs.
Another comeback leading to an eventual win. This is the 20th time the Phillies have rallied to win – tying the Yankees for most in the majors. They also wrapped up a 7-3 road trip, improving to a major league-best 23-9 on the road. They remain in first place in the NL East, four games ahead of the dickweed Mets.
“My team always comes back,” manager Charlie Manuel said. “That’s what’s good about them.”
