Plaxico Burress Setting Table To Play In 2009

Plaxico Burress could be back in the NFL this season as a judge delayed his trial this afternoon on gun possession charges.

Judge Felicia Mennin adjourned the case until Sept. 23.

Burress’ attorney said just after the ruling that it was “inconceivable” that Burress would face trial on the charge before 2010 and that “physically he’s in the best shape of his life. He’s ready to play.”

Burress’ agent, Drew Rosenhaus, posted on Twitter that he hopes to have a deal for Burress with any NFL team before training camp starts, and said he’s confident the NFL won’t have grounds to discipline Burress until after his case is processed in court.

“A new team called me today to express interest in Plex,” Rosenhaus wrote. “I expected the interest level in Plex to heat up after today’s development and it has.”

Which brings us back to Brafman who believes the prosecutors are determined to take the case to a grand jury, and that Burress would plead not guilty if the case went to trial.

“There is not a victim in this case except Plaxico Burress,” he said.

What about Giants’ fans, there Mr. Brafman?

    (Mike Florio PFT)

As former teammate Tim Hasselbeck recently said on ESPN’s NFL Live, “He’s a disaster as a teammate. He’s a disaster as a guy that you have to coach. . . . If you want to wait for a guy to show up to meetings, if you want to have to beg a guy to run full-speed in practice, if you want a guy that would disappear in games because he doesn’t get the ball early — then look, Plaxico Burress is your guy.”

Eli will have his best season statistically to date without Burress.

Yes Burress is a mess. However, there is no way Manning has his best season without him. Receivers like Burress are few and far between in this league – or at least the NFC – without him Manning is lost.

With him, they won the Superbowl.

We shall see. I like the fact that all of the WRs and TEs are participating in Mini-Camp (A first for Manning. Burress and Shockey were rarely present).

The GIANTS are loaded with talent at WR and TE. I am excited to see what Gilbride will do with them. It also sounds like their new practice facility will be a huge help, especially on running deep pass plays. Their new facility has a 100 yd field as opposed to the old one which only had a 50yd field.

Word is that Eli looks better than ever. Hard work and more reps with his young receivers will result in best season STATISTICALLY to date.
