While we can complain that the Giants are in the playoffs, it won’t do anyone any good. At least we could have made a few dollars on them bums – turns out we couldn’t even do that.

But that’s short money, in the long run it looks like Eli will be around for a long time – something that could get DC well paid. What do you think? Listen to the podcast and let me know if you to believe in miracles.

We also discuss the Spectrum’s long-overdue demise as well as the Flyers problem with the Devils. Oh yeah – Jimmy Rollins predicted 100 wins for the 2008 Phillies. Oh yeah! It’s on for sure.

Does Eli Manning’s playoff run give him a 5 year extension?

    YES

Manning would still be the starter if they lost in the first round to Tampa Bay.

I discussed this same topic with GIANTS’ beat writer Ralph Vacchiano before the start of the 2007 season. We both agreed that the team would replace it’s entire offensive coaching staff before giving up on Manning. You have to remember, not only was Manning a number one draft pick, but the GIANTS gave up a lot to get him.

In the end the GIANTS made the right decision in being patient with Manning’s progress. The talent has always been there, and the hard work is finally paying off. It’s like Tom Coughlin said. “Manning has barely scratched the surface of what he is capable of”.

It’s funny how most give a player a 2-4 yr window in evaluating their status in the NFL, but with Manning he was labeled a bust out of the gate. Manning has taken the GIANTS to the Super Bowl in his 3rd full season as the starting QB. Would you look for a replacement at the position with those credentials? Philadelphia fans hate Eli Manning because he is a Manning.

Manning has had it tougher than any other QB as far as pressure from the media and fans. It’s also no shock to me that Manning has performed much better on the road this season. Gil Brandt of NFL Sirius said that from mid-November on, GIANTS stadium is the toughest stadium to play in because of the unpredictable winds. In 2010 the GIANTS will have a new stadium and you can bet on it that barring injury, Eli Manning will be behind center taking the first snap for the GIANTS.

Through Vacchiano I was able to ask Manning about his struggles down the stretch of 2005-2006.

From Demitri “Turkish”: Why do you think your production dropped off at mid-season in 2005 and 2006?

EM: Well, I think as an offense and as a team our production just went down. Last year we lost some players to injuries and we weren’t able to do the things we were doing earlier when we were winning some close games. Hopefully we can stay healthy this year and we can continue to get stronger as the season goes along.
