Report: DeRosa Wants To Play In Philadelphia
According to FoxSports, the Phillies are the top choice of where free agent utility-man Mark DeRosa wants to play.
While this may be true, teams like the Yankees, Mariners, Nationals, Dodgers, and Giants will try to make a play for the 34 year old journeyman. DeRosa, who hit – .250/.319/.433 with 23 homers and 78 RBI in 2009 had wrist surgery in October.

Pass…I want Figgins.
Figgins would be ideal of course, but would they really move Rollins down and use him properly anyway? I doubt it unfortunately.
DeRosa would definitely be my 2nd choice. He can also play middle infield & outfield. You could use him to give Chase and/or Jimmy a day off, and not have an automatic out in the line up. Also, that would mean Dobbs would play 3rd and hopefully keep him sharper. He’ll be cheaper and you’ll have more $$ for pen & bench.
DeRosa is 35 and had surgery last month. He batted .250, and his glove is not as good as Feliz. He’s not really an upgrade.
If not Figgins, my 2nd choice would be Adrian Beltre. He was hurt for a good part of last year, so I throw those numbers out. He’s younger than DeRosa, and has a better glove. His power numbers would go way up moving from Safeco to CBP. I would take an average year – .270/.325/.453, 30/95 production and excellent defense. He’s rumored to have somewhat of an attitude problem. But I think this clubhouse has plenty of guys that would keep him in line.
If the Phils got Figgins or Beltre, I would look for a utility guy that can play 3B/SS/2B and then move Dobbs. He’s nothing special at the plate, and has no position other than 3B or 1B.
The Phils will be getting some arms back in the pen (Romero, Condrey, maybe Mathieson) so it’s not going to be a total re-build (need Chan Ho back, though). Getting some power and utility on the bench is a must.
I’m not too into Beltre. Maybe its his bleeding ball.
Phillies are stressing defense for their bench, so I wouldn’t expect them to pick up a power guy, although I agree they should…..
