Trotter? What’s next? Concrete Charlie? Didn’t the Eagles get rid of Trotter? Twice?

Kolb had 2 300+ yard games and thats all well and good but I’m still not sold on this guy Derek. Against a playoff bound team he had 2 picks and one that got ran back for a TD. Against a shitty K.C team that the Florida Gators could probably beat he had no INT another long TD pass and all is well. What I noticed with him is he kinda locks on the guy he is going to throw to as soon as the ball is snapped and doesn’t look them off. I don’t know but I’m not sold on Kolb. Anyone else feel the same way?

Here was your quote on Kolb, DeWayne:

“It tells me that as soon as Kolb gets into trouble (and you know he will) Garcia is in. He knows the offense and will be ready to step in.”

Kolb may or may not become a full-time starter someday. But the guy did his job well enough to put Garcia back on the street. At least give him that.

At this point, I just don’t get why people hate on Kolb so much. Was he drafted too high??? Probably, but that’s not his fault.

Let me ask you this, DeWayne. As an Eagles fan, don’t you WANT to see Kolb succeed??? He’s clearly being groomed to replace McNabb at some point. If he fails as the full-time starter, the team on the field will suck, and the organization will be set back a couple years trying to find another long-term solution. McNabb is gone after next year, and Vick will want a chance to start somewhere else. There is NOTHING behind Kolb right now. If he doesn’t work out, then the Eagles might be looking like the Cowboys post-Aikman, with a different QB every year for 4 or 5 years.

At the very least, Kolb showed potential, even if it was only the Chiefs. There’s definitely good chemistry there with Jackson, Celek and McCoy. These 4 guys are the cornerstones of the Eagles offense in 2011, and hopefully beyond.

Pairface I guess they hate Kolb for all the same reasons they hate McNabb which is probably there is no reason. We all just want to win that S.B we never won. It seems like Kolb is the next staring QB for the Eagles whenever that is. I’m sure if McNabb has a bad couple of series everyone is going to want Kolb in to save the day. What I’m saying is that I’m not sure he is or isn’t the answer to our Super Bowl drought. Just haven’t seen enough to make that call.

I’ll tell you what, one player that is the REAL DEAL is DeSean Jackson. Not only can he fly, but he makes some great catches and his hands are phenomenal.

  6. PairFace on September 30, 2009 at 10:43 pm

CLINCH! Bring on the Rockies. Time for some payback!

  7. DeWayne on September 30, 2009 at 10:59 pm

To further the discussion against a top 10 defense Kolb had 300+ which is good but had 2 picks one which was at the end of the game which was over anyway. K.C is ranked 21 and he had 300+ no turnovers which is WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN THEY SUCK. And because of this game you consider him a cornerstone??? Garcia got let go because its a bye week & Mcnabb will be back under center against T.B. Why keep him, he will get a starting job somewhere else, he won’t start here. He was there just to get us to the bye week. He showed potential against a team who didn’t have anyone to throw to and is rebuilding. He had a good game, but don’t put him on the cover of Madden 11 yet. Cornerstone.

I think Kolb deserves to be the starter based on his performance. Start the Kolb era now. McNabb always gets hurt and can not complete the whole season. I think Kolb is more that a cornerstone. He deserves to be in the Pro-Bowl this year based on his 2 game performances against the great defensive teams like the Saints and the Chief. The HoF needs to get his bust ready!

I think Reid should have the DOG KILLER take McNabb out back and do what the DOG KILLER is best at. Nike should sign Kolb to a large contract. He is the next best thing in the NFL based on his two game performance.

  9. PairFace on October 1, 2009 at 9:19 am

Go back and watch that Saints game, if you taped it. The Eagles were in the game for the 1st half. Kolb was playing OK. It was the defense that was getting shredded, and the special teams that were awful. Hobbs fumbles the 2nd half kickoff, and the Saints score in 3 plays to go up 11. Then Kolb’s 1st INT of the game, and the Saints score another TD – It was a bad throw by Kolb, but no stop from the defense, no holding the Saints to a FG. The defense practically escorted the Saints into the end zone. So at that point, it’s an 18 point deficit, with a QB making his 1st start. Reid starts calling pass-pass-pass, Kolb throws a pick that is returned 97 yards (at least 3 missed tackles on that play), and the game is way out of hand.

As far as the Chiefs game, yes, it was the Chiefs. But as a fan, you want to see progress from Kolb’s 1st start to his 2nd start, and there was definitely progress. He still has happy feet in the pocket, and he sometimes locks on to receivers – but these are correctable mistakes that tend to diminish over time.

And guess what – if Kolb is the Eagles’ starting QB in 2011, then he IS A CORNERSTONE of the offense. QB is the most important position on the field. So by definition, the starting QB is a cornerstone of ANY offense. Please read my comments in the context it was written (I did not say he was a cornerstone because of the Chiefs game). I didn’t say Kolb is going to be a superstar, or even a good starter in this league. But if he becomes the eventual starter, he becomes the most important guy in the Eagles’ offense.

You are now back-peddling on Garcia. Now, your story is Garcia was here to “get us to the bye week”, when 2 weeks ago, he was going to be the QB in McNabb’s place when Kolb inevitably failed. There is a possibility that McNabb could go down again this season. Garcia could be holding a clipboard somewhere else by that time.

BTW, outside of a team losing 2 QBs, where is Garcia going to get a starting job you seem to think he’ll get??? Pennington went down in Miami, and the Dolphins didn’t even call the Eagles about Garcia. They traded for Thigpen, rather than wait and get Garcia for nothing. Tampa’s having all kinds of QB issues, and they haven’t brought Garcia in. With all the crappy QBs starting right now, you would think Garcia would be snapped up immediately if there were GMs out there that thought he could still play.

Again 6SBR, sarcasm isn’t really your strong suit.

  11. 6SBR on October 1, 2009 at 9:51 am

    Pairface,

Based on your Cornerstone defination, the Cowboys had the following Cornerstone as QB’s from 2001-2005:

Bledsoe, Testeverde, Henson, Carter, Hutchinson, Leaf, Wright and Stoener

And we all know how those Cornerstones worked out.

I think you need to re-think your cornerstone defination.

  12. StongSideBlitz on October 1, 2009 at 12:55 pm

He played well on Sunday. Just leave it at that. What is the point in trying to play Nostradamus after two games? Give the kid his credit already. He was asked to come in and play until McNabb is ready to come back, and he did a terrific job. The Eagles now have a solid back-up QB, which is exactly what they expect from Kolb.

  13. PairFace on October 1, 2009 at 6:27 pm

Thanks StrongSide. I’ve been saying that all along.

And 6SBR, the QB is a cornerstone of any offense. They may not be good cornerstones, but that is besides the point. The QB touches the ball on every snap (well almost, now that the Wildcat is in vogue), so the offense has to go through the QB. Coaches have to build their offense based on the skills of the QB, good or bad.

If you define cornerstone differently, that’s up to you. To me, starting QB is a cornerstone in just about every offense at every level.

Viva la Kolb! VIVA LA KOLB!!!

Give him the reigns and let him run with the offense! He at least has a career to play for. The only thing McNabb is playing for is life after football and praying he can land a spot on ESPNs NFL Countdown. I’m not a McNabb hater – I’m an Eagles lover! McNabb had his chances and keeps coming up smaller and smaller and smaller in the big games. The man simply doesnt have the burning desire to win a Super Bowl like a young up & comer does. Complaceny is a bitch! Financial appology?!?! Where’s our apology for throwing up in the biggest Eagles game of the last 30 years! I’m still waiting on that one.

There was a time when the man played with all the heart in the world (broken ankle vs. Arizona) but those days are loooooong gone. I truely believe the T.O. episode broke his soul. After 3 NFC Championship game losses & then losing the Super Bowl he had to deal with T.O. and Philly calling him out. Poor old sensitive Donovan mailed it in after that and started thinking about life after football. Can someone please give me 1 example of the last time he showed ANY – AAAANNNNNNYYYY emotion? The guy doesn’t have the heart to lead a high school team to a championship. Bernard Hopkins said it best on Howard Eskin – “Speaking as a professional for 20 something years, within a guy, some people have it & some people don’t. He (McNabb) don’t want it… its like a car. The car looks good, but if you flip the hood up there is no engine. The tires, the interior, the radio all look great! But when you flip up the hood the engine doesn’t crank. And when the engine is breached what you have left is a front runner.”

Well said Bernard! Spoken like the true CHAMPION you are. I recommend that you download it from iTunes under Howard Eskin from June 24, 2009.

Let Kolb run the offense. When McNabb comes back… Jesus. We’ve all seen this movie before. And it always ends the same way: With Eagles fans in tears as the credits are rolling.

Viva La Kolb! VIVA LA KOLB!!!

Quote from Pairface “And guess what – if Kolb is the Eagles’ starting QB in 2011, then he IS A CORNERSTONE of the offense. ”

By point is the QB is the cornerstone of the offense, but there is a difference in that a starting QB is a cornerstone QB just because he starts. That was my point by listing all the failed (non cornerstone) starting Cowboy’s QB.

Here are another two examples (non football).

    1. The CEO position is the cornerstone of a company. But there is a difference between a Jack Welsh and a Ken Lay.

    2. The US President is the cornerstone of the USA. But there is a difference between Reagon vs. Carter.

Hopefully, this simplies the argument for you.

  16. PairFace on October 2, 2009 at 11:49 pm

OK, so you have your definition of cornerstone, and I have mine. Good or bad, a CEO (btw – Welch, not Welsh) guides the direction of a company. He/she may guide it into a ditch, like many of those Cowboy QBs you mentioned, but they were the catalyst for whatever direction the company went. Granted, a company can work around a bad CEO, much like a team can work around a bad QB. But more often than not, success or failure generally hinges upon that person’s performance.

Michael Irvin got to the HOF, and had Aikman throwing to him his entire career. Would Irvin have made it if he had the carousel of QBs you mentioned???

Due to St. Louis losing, the Phillies will have home field. Bring it on!!!!!!!

Home field for the Division Series. You seem very excited about a team limping into the post season. But hey, anything can happen in the playoffs. Give me a call asshole and let’s try to grab a drink this week.
