Wagner To Have Shoulder Examined
Update II:
Mets New York Mets closer Billy Wagner Billy Wagner underwent a shoulder examination yesterday, and will have a precautionary MRI exam this morning.
Wagner saw team orthopedist Dr. Seth Miller in Manhattan, who diagnosed inflammation in the shoulder, according to a source familiar with the situation.
When reached by phone last night, Wagner said he was not concerned.
“Fifteen years of doing this, I think that’s pretty normal,” he said “Everything else is fine.”
It is not known if the inflammation is severe enough to keep Wagner from pitching tonight, but the Mets probably will be cautious with their 36-year-old, $43 million closer.
Update:
Billy Wagner won’t have his left shoulder examined on Monday, after it felt better during the Mets’ flight home from Cincinnati on Sunday night, a published report said.
Mets vice president of media relations Jay Horwitz told Newsday.com that Wagner would not have an MRI on his left shoulder and would see a doctor only if he felt tightness in his shoulder again on Monday.
With the Phillies and Mets getting set to play one hell of an important series at Shea, Billy Wagner is slated to be in Manhattan to have his left shoulder examined.
The Mets’ closer experienced tightness in his left shoulder yesterday while saving a 7-5 victory against the Reds.
“It seems fine now,” he said afterward. “It wasn’t that bad. When Jerry came out, I thought it was for someone else. … It doesn’t seem bad. If it is, I’ll miss the first game [of the Phillies series], and if we’re winning by more than three, that won’t matter.”

No MRI for Wagner. He looked fine yesterday, striking out the side in the 10th. His fastball topped out at 96.
